I really enjoyed my excursion into the dark, dank depths of the Catacombs. Every series I think “These are my new favorites!” and I couldn’t agree more in regards to this series which has been my most labor intensive to date. To bend, shape, and saw simple sheet metal into a vast variety of forms; to create texture, patina, and transfer metals with chemistry; and to see my designs go from simple drawings to functional art that you can hold in your hand is extremely rewarding. I etched the brass with a beautiful world map design and patina-ed the metal. I created one of a kind, digital art for the inside of the box. Along with my favorite quote from J.R.R Tolkien ~ “Not all those who wander are lost.” A sprinkling of gold stars sealed in resin adorns the back of the maiden figurehead on the top of the box. I have layered a treasure map along with some tattered cloth for accent. The box ties with a gorgeous nave blue satin ribbon.
